Break Our Hearts

Kathy Hwang, 2001
Dedicated to the Sept 11 victims

We all fall down
And it’s so hard to see the light in our midst,
When the world turns to darkness
And sorrow swallows our hearts.

I’ll trust in you
When our foundations are rocked and we’ve been broken.
‘Cause you’re the only thing that makes sense
In this crazy world.

Break our hearts, oh God,
So you can mend it back with your love inside.
Spirit, come and dwell in us.
Break our hearts, oh God.
So you can mend it back with your love inside.
And you will wipe every tear that falls from our eyes,
You’ll take all the pain and hurt inside,
And we’ll walk in paradise with you.

We all fall down
But we’ve been down for so long and nothing matters.
When our hearts have turned to stone,
We’ve tried to make it on our own
And we’ve failed.
Oh, we’ve failed.

There is a river whose streams make glad
The city of God, the Holy place.
God is within her, she will not fall
And help comes at the break of day.
